Jul 29 2011

This beautiful decorative castle is built on top of a 130ft (40m) high cliff in Crimea, Ukraine. It is a very popular tourist attraction due to its beauty and the views to be had from it.

Built in 1912 for a Russian General, it is one of few Gothic architecture buildings in Ukraine.

The building is compact in size, measuring only 20 m (66 ft) long by 10 m (33 ft) wide.

In 1927, Swallow's Nest survived a serious earthquake rated at 6 to 7 on the Richter scale.

In 2011, the Swallow's Nest was closed for three months due to a complete restoration effort estimated at 1,200,000 hryvnias ($150,000 USD)
